Submerged Aquatic Vegetation

The Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s Underwater Grasses Program allows you to grow the grasses in tubs at home and then plant them in the summer in the Potomac River. The target set by government officials for the Anacostia River is 20 acres of submerged aquatic vegetation by 2010.

Stormwater Monitoring

Possibility of implementing crest gages as described in the newsletter The Volunteer Monitor, in Volume 15, number 2 (Summer 2003) pages 20-21, and Volume 7, number 2 (Fall 1995) pages 41-42. Also the merits of buying flow meter vs. orange floatation method for measuring stream flow velocity. Will revisit this topic after June, when Mike Smith will take class at University of Maryland on Ecological and Geomorphic Principles of Stream Restoration.

Bacteria Monitoring

As WSSC bacteria monitoring program is developed will follow their findings.
